FAQs

Why AWR Films, LLC?

We realize there are an overwhelming number of choices for drone service providers, photographers, and videographers in West Virginia. We know because we survey the market regularly to ensure we maintain the highest quality deliverables at the best value for money. We encourage you to shop around and compare the quality of our work with other local drone services (we’ve already done it and know we’re at the top level of providers). When you book a project with us, you know exactly who and what you’re getting – we don’t outsource. We’re not bidding on work and then finding random drone operators off Craigslist or from our “pilot pool” to fill the jobs. You get top-notch professionals at every project. Even more importantly, our experience, expertise, attention to detail, reliability, and professionalism ensure the smoothest and most hassle-free client experience of any provider in the state.

How much does it actually cost? Why doesn’t our website have a detailed price list?

Every client and every project is unique, and should be treated as such. We’re here to understand and fulfill your specific needs. Before providing a quote, we want a thorough knowledge of what you’re looking to accomplish, what you value, and what we’ll need to do to help you achieve your desired goal for any given project.

Some of the factors affecting pricing include:
– Type of drone required
– Complexity of flight planning
– Airspace clearance requirements
– FAA waiver requirements
– Necessity of a visual observer
– Edited or unedited work
– Data processing expenses
– Risk to equipment (e.g. filming off a boat vs filming in an open field)
– Liability risk (e.g. urban area vs. vacant land)

In keeping with our mission of providing a smooth, hassle-free experience for our customers, we always seek to quote flat, “out the door” rates for jobs whenever possible – no hidden travel fees, tacked on visual observer fees, footage “licensing” fees, or racking up by-the-hour charges because a job took longer than we anticipated in the original bid. What we quote up front is what you pay for the delivered work, period.

When requesting a quote, please describe to us in as much detail as possible what you’re looking to achieve, what you expect from us, and the exact location of the job, in order for us to provide the most accurate quote we can in the most timely manner possible.

Do you offer non-drone services like regular videography?

Yes! We specialize in event and real estate videography as well. We are equipped to handle most ground-based video needs with Panasonic 4K capable cameras, motorized gimbals, video lighting, and shotgun + lav mics for interview-type videos.

Another drone service provider quoted me a hefty “usage license”/”copyright license”/”creative” fee for the photos/videos I want. Do you charge licensing fees?

As a general rule, we do not. This is part of our “no hassle” experience. What we quote you to fly the job and provide you with edited or unedited shots is what you pay, period. You are legally permitted to use the provided shots however you want, for as long as you want.

Although exorbitant “licensing fees” are all too common of a practice in the drone photography industry, we do not believe in charging customers extra to actually use material that was shot specifically for them in the first place – especially when that material likely has no real value to anyone other than the customer that requested it. With that said, we do retain the copyright to all footage and photography we produce and reserve the right to use it in our own marketing materials, unless other arrangements are made.

What are your payment terms/What payment methods do you accept?

We invoice all business-to-business work on NET30 (payment is due within 30 days of when the invoice is received) terms unless prearranged otherwise. Our invoicing is currently done through PayPal, which allows for online credit card payment or mailed business check. Business check is our preferred payment method. Private parties are invoiced when finished materials are delivered and invoices are due upon receipt. Private parties may pay with cash or credit card.

What is typical turn around time on finished work?

This is highly dependent on what the finished work actually is. Raw footage turn around is same-day (very large amounts of footage may run into the following morning due to upload time) or can even be delivered on-site at job completion via laptop or SD card backup device. Edited photos are typically delivered within 24-48hours – residential real estate photos are delivered before noon the following day. Edited video varies greatly based on the complexity of the edit, but delivery time frame will be addressed when we provide a quote.

Our company has a drone, but no Part 107 certified operators. Will you supervise our flight/fly our drone/train our pilot/etc.?

Yes! The FAA’s regulations state that the certified pilot only needs to supervise the operation for the operation to be legal. We have two certified drone pilots on staff and will gladly act as oversight for your operation while your own operator flies, fly your equipment if you have no one to fly, or train one of your employees to fly and/or acquire their own Part 107 certification.
